weekend in virginia!

over the weekend, keith and i took a trip down to charlottesville to visit jen and jake. we had a really great time. it was so nice to get out of the city for a couple of days and just relax. we got there late thursday night after a 6 hour drive and went to bed shortly after we got there. there were a few times during the trip when i looked over to see keith just shaking his head. it's pretty funny to see him out of his element every once in a while. he's a great sport, though. friday we just hung out with jen in the morning and then went into town to have lunch with jake. later that night, we went back to town to an outdoor concert, dinner, and then just hung out for a little while. saturday morning we slept in a little and then went to float down the james river. it was a little chilly in the morning, but the afternoon was great and it warmed up enough to get out of the boats and sit in the water for a little. saturday night we just hung out at the house and grilled. sunday morning was very relaxed. we got up and put all of our stuff together, went to breakfast and then headed back to the city. the drive back took a little longer, but we made it in one piece and had a fantastic time. hope everyone had a great father's day. wish i could have been home to see everyone and celebrate the day, maybe next year...

summer "break"

summer break takes on an entirely new meaning as a grown up, and i don't like it! since my last post i have gotten a new job and started summer school. the new job is really great. i'm doing research at a sleep disorders lab where i hook people up to all the electrodes and watch their brain activity while they sleep. it's pretty cool to see how much brain activity differs depending on which stage of sleep a person is in. in the last week, i've started helping one of the fellows there with a research article for a medical journal, and i will be published as a participant! i think it sounds pretty great and can't hurt for getting into the phd programs!

the class i'm taking this summer is psychopathology 1, i took 2 last semester and it doesn't make sense to me either. it is with the same professor that tortured me last semester, but he promises not to do the same this time...we'll see :) it is a much more relaxed environment and there seems to be a lot more discussion, so that's nice. still a ton of reading, but with only 1 class, it's much more bearable. so between that and the 2 jobs, i don't sit still very often or for very long, but it's nice to be busy. keith and i are hoping to come out in july for matt's wedding and to see everyone. it's going to be a really quick trip, probably just for the weekend, but it will be good to see a lot of people in one place!
