our big storm

last week, a huge storm came through our area and destroyed tons of trees, downed power lines, and did significant damage to homes and cars. we were lucky and didn't have any major damage. we lost power for 3 and a half days (during a huge heat wave) and there was some water in the basement, but nothing that can't be fixed. i heard that in the storm there was a forming funnel cloud that touched down before it was fully formed. it would explain the way the tree in the last picture is twisted! these are all pictures on the street i'm living on and are of 2 huge trees that were taken down by the storm. it was pretty incredible to watch for about 15 min, and then i stayed away from all the windows until it was over!!! needless to say, i didn't get out much for a couple days and if i did, it took me a good hour just to get to a main road.

i have a home!!

well, i thought it was hopeless, but today i found an apartment! it's on the upper east side and a 1 bedroom (which is rare for the price here). i'm soooooooo excited!! they're putting in a new fridge, stove, and sink and redoing the bathroom. it's not huge, but a really great size. just perfect for me and my cat(s). i can't wait to bring my stuff out here and live in the city. now you all really have to come visit, even for a second time!! (i'll post more pictures as soon as i get them!!) here's a picture of the outside. i live on the 4th floor, and my windows are the 2 on the right!!

apartment hunting

so far, i'm not impressed with the apartment search. it seems like there should be a thousand apartments that i could move into, but i haven't been able to find one! i know i've only been looking for about a week, but i'm not doing very well with the not knowing where i'm going to live in less than a month! everyone keeps telling me i still have plenty of time and i shouldn't worry. here's hoping! i'm going back out tomorrow to look at a few.

nyu!!!!!!

finally, FINALLY good school news!! i was officially accepted to NYU this week and couldn't be happier. it's going to be hard to leave the family i've been working for this past year, but i'm super excited to be working towards my degree. now to find a place to live...not quite as easy as colorado! i'm sure it will all work out and will keep you all posted.
