happy birthday, daddy

happy birthday, daddy!! hope you had great luck in vegas. miss you and can't wait to have a hug, soon. love you!

preakness

this weekend, jesse and i went to the preakness and met up with some friends down there. it was the most insane party and event i think i've ever been to. the only thing i can think to compare it to is woodstock. there were 60,000 people on what they call the 'infield'. that's where we were. it took people about 3 hours of standing in line just to get in, but once we were in there, the party was in full swing. pretty much everyone we saw was in their 20's. i have always thought of horse races to be where people go dressed their best with big hats and it's a very proper event. while that may have been the case in the stands, it was not the case where we were...at all! it was so insane, in fact, that SWAT was everywhere and was ready to move at any given moment; and did several times. most people that were going in had a cooler full of beer, and i don't think any of it was left over. it was a great time once we were able to get in the venue, but the getting in and getting back out were a nightmare. i'm not sure i'll ever go again, but we had a blast.

i felt to bad for barbaro! while we didn't really know what was going on while it was happening, the pictures we saw today were incredible. hopefully, he'll be okay. they did surgery on his leg today, but they're still not sure he's going to make it. if you missed the race, look at the back right leg of the back middle horse.

studying...

i'm trying to study for the new york state teaching certification exam, and i can't do it!! my study habits have gone way down hill and i'm finding it very hard to make myself sit down and study. i've tried making a schedule, but i don't seem to be following it...maybe it's just too nice outside! the test doesn't seem like it should be too bad. 80 multiple choice about everything and then a second 80 multiple choice test about math. i'm more worried about the main exam because there is a ton of history and i only took the bare minimum in school! i'm trying to make it as easy and as effective as possible, but i have a hard time remembering which war happened when and why...i've even gone as far as making my highlighting color-coded! i guess i am a little ocd. that's about all i've been up to, and will be studying for the next month or so...wish me luck!
