my visit with mom
last weekend, mom came to visit, and we had such a good time!! she got in late thursday night, i got lost getting back from the airport, we spent the day in the city on friday, did nothing on saturday, and went up state to see the trees on sunday! okay, that was the short version, here's the long one!
thursday: mom got in at about 10:30 and we left the airport at 11ish. the airport is on long island, east of here, so when we left, i thought i should go west on the interstate. BIG mistake!! we ended up going to queens, the bronx (mom got to see yankee stadium), brooklyn, and finally manhattan. we got to the house at around 1 or 1:30...but we saw a lot of the city!!
friday: we slept in and took it easy in the morning. went to the bagel shop and starbucks, then headed down to the city at around 11:30. we took the train to grand central, and the great walk began!! grand central is at 42nd and lexington. we walked up 5th ave. to rockefeller center, through central park (zoo, the lake, the belvedere castle), and then to the guggenheim. the guggenheim is at 89th and 5th. we had a great time though and didn't realize how far we had walked until we got there! we walked through the guggenheim (russia! was the exhibit), and then walked to the nearest train and took it back to times square. from there, we had dinner at a great italian restaurant and then went to see dirty rotten scoundrels. the show was really funny and followed the movie almost exactly. we were exhausted and got to the house at about 12:30.
saturday: we woke up to rain, and a lot of it!! we got out to go to the mall for a couple hours and planned to see a movie, but it didn't start for about 3 hours, so we decided to go back to the house for a little while. well, we didn't leave again! it was too cold and wet. so we ordered food and a movie and went to bed early.
sunday: it started out cloudy but got nicer and nicer. it was a great day so we took a drive up north to see the leaves (they haven't really changed here). they were so pretty. it was amazing that they are still mostly green, but it made the ones that were changing stand out that much more. we drove about 50-60 miles, pulled over a few times to look at the leaves, and stopped at a diner for lunch. on the way back, i gave mom a tour of the area i'm living in. then we came back to the house, watched the broncos game (i can't believe they blew it in the last 5 seconds), and had a great dinner with everyone.
monday: came way too soon!! mom's flight left at 9, so we were out of the house by 7.
it was such a great time, i look forward to the next one!!!

backseat driver
last weekend, jesse and i took a trip down to philadelphia to go around the campus and sell some tables. aside from the pouring rain, it was a really fun trip. people at u penn don't tailgate, which is why we went down there, but then we started going around the bars and other places around campus. People seemed really positive and interested. it was strange to me that their biggest competitor is from philadelphia, but we didn't see any of their tables anywhere we went. it was great.
on the way back, it was raining harder and harder. i couldn't drive between the rain and it being dark outside. jesse was driving, and doing well, but i still couldn't keep my mouth shut. i've gotten better about it, but for whatever reason, i can't help but put my 2 cents in when someone else is driving. i'm pretty sure its the lack of control, but that doesn't sound like me! :)
