Need Advice
by Erica

I carved my first cake last week. It was for a four year-olds pirate themed birthday party. I made a sheet cake and divided it into three equal sections. I then layered the sections and put chocolate buttercream between each layer. In the middle section I cut out part of the layer and placed it on the back of the ship to create more height. Throughout the day the back section started to pull away from the cake.
I need some advice of how to layer cake without it tipping. I understand that there is a staking technique out there, but I am not sure how that all works.
The cake made it to the party without sinking. I am sure the four year-olds never noticed the flaw.

I don't know much about stacking cakes, but whenever I want something to stick I use super glue. Would that be bad on a kids cake, though?! :)
Once again, you amaze me with your cake decorating abilities. Too bad it too you 27 years to discover this talent, huh!! Oh well- better late than never!!
WOW!!! I'm pretty sure your cakes are the most creative and most awesome cakes I've ever seen. They need to be in some sort of magazine! Great job!!!
Awesome cake!!! True talent! My sister-in-law uses like dowel rods or something that is similar to those to put in cakes that may have a tendency to lean...I don't know though! I have just seen her do that!
You are amazing! The speed at which you're learning to make these cakes is impressive.
That's my girl!!!!!!
Love ya! Mom
