Baking Day

by Erica

I look forward to this day all year long. I love getting out my Christmas cookies cutters and decorating the cookies with colorful frosting. I eat my share of dough and then I have to try each kind of cookie to make sure it is good enough to give away. This year, Ashlyn got bundled up and helped me deliver the cookies to neighbors.

Grandpa Thurston

by Erica

Grandpa Thurston was a man that I only knew for a few years. He was a witty man who once worked as a professor at MIT. The only place I have known him to live was on a ranch in eastern Colorado. He raised cattle and horses up until this past year. Every Christmas he would send us some sort of meat that I would never think to buy (Cornish game hen or smoked turkey). It always tasted delicious.

I was known to him by the name 'Elektra'. Due to his wit, I was never sure if he knew my name was 'Erica'. I didn't care-in fact, I liked the name. These last few months have been hard as he had been battling cancer. My mother-in-law, Carol, welcomed Grandpa into her home so unselfishly so that he could be more comfortable and be well taken-care of.

Grandpa Thurston passed away on Friday with loved-ones surrounding him. Please keep the Heddings' and Thurston families in your prayers.

Road Trip

by Erica

Funovation, the company that Jason joined a few months ago, was doing a laser maze install in Grand Junction this past weekend. Because it was a local install, the whole family went to observe and help with it.

It was Ashlyn's first road trip and she did quite well. This was probably not the weekend to go traversing through the mountains. We saw numerous accidents on the way. Thankfully God protected us and kept us safe. We tried coming home on Saturday night. After dealing with poor visibility and a very slow drive, we pulled over and spent the night in Glennwood Springs. We enjoyed a beautiful drive home as the trees and mountains were covered with freshly fallen snow.

Bulleted Post

by Erica

  • We woke up this morning to a light dusting of snow. I love snow in December.
  • There is currently a trial underway in Colorado of a man being charged with third-degree assault for throwing a snowball at a co-worker. I am so tired of frivolous lawsuits.
  • Today marks the beginning of a very crazy week. It involves 2 trips, CPR class and 2 Christmas parties.
  • I have a pile of Christmas presents sitting on the kitchen table that need to be wrapped. Wrapping presents is one of my favorite things to do.
  • Today is cleaning day-I better get started.
