Grandpa Thurston was a man that I only knew for a few years. He was a witty man who once worked as a professor at MIT. The only place I have known him to live was on a ranch in eastern Colorado. He raised cattle and horses up until this past year. Every Christmas he would send us some sort of meat that I would never think to buy (Cornish game hen or smoked turkey). It always tasted delicious.
I was known to him by the name 'Elektra'. Due to his wit, I was never sure if he knew my name was 'Erica'. I didn't care-in fact, I liked the name.

These last few months have been hard as he had been battling cancer. My mother-in-law, Carol, welcomed Grandpa into her home so unselfishly so that he could be more comfortable and be well taken-care of.
Grandpa Thurston passed away on Friday with loved-ones surrounding him. Please keep the Heddings' and Thurston families in your prayers.
