Celebrating Fall

by Erica

The Heddings' family (Jason, Erica, Ollie and Cody) took our annual fall drive through the mountains today. The dogs look forward to seeing the changing fall colors. Some say that can't see color. I beg to differ. I was intrigued when we came across this chapel. Out of nowhere there was a chapel sitting on a hill. What a gorgeous setting to admire God's creation.

Fall

by Erica

It would be hard for me to live in a place that does not experience 4 seasons. Even though summer is my favorite time of the year, I love that it is now fall. I like it for the reason that most people do: the changing of the leaves, the fragrance of the outdoors, Pumpkin Spice lattes, etc. To be a bit more cheesy, fall is when I first fell in love with my husband. I traveled to Colorado a few times during the fall season when I was back in Ohio student teaching. Now when fall comes around I get nostalgic and think about the time when I first fell in love with him.

Time to go bake an apple pie.

Darn Wind Storm

by Erica

The wind caused our favorite tree to fall down today. It had just started changing colors. How sad!

National Geographic

by Erica

Opps. I am waiting to get some phone calls on this one.

At the beginning of the school year I was given some National Geographic magazines for my classroom. Not thinking, I added them to my classroom library for my students to look at. For the first two weeks of school, I was impressed at how much they liked looking at the pictures.

Until yesterday.

I had a girl come up to me and show me a picture of an African women. Not looking closely, I told her, "Yep, that is the way that African women dress. They look different than we do." She insistantly pointed at the picture of the woman (who of coarse was topless). I quickly tore out the page and thumbed through the rest of the magazine of which I had to tear out about 5 more pages. I wonder how many kids have seen nude pictures in the magazines in my room.

Fabulous

by Erica

I was telling Jason the other day that I really cannot stand the word 'fabulous'. I thought by telling him that my annoyance with the word would go away. It hasn't. There are certain blogs that I frequent that use this word at least twice in one post. It is a trendy word if you ask me. What makes it worse is when people say, "I had a fabulous day. FABULOUS.

On a lighter note, we had dinner on Saturday night with my blog friend, Karen :) Okay, really Karen's husband and Jason work together. We found a quaint Italian restaurant in Berthoud. It was delicious. Thanks for the plumbs, Karen. I have eaten them like candy.

I had to fast today for a medical exam. I couldn't eat from 11:00 am to 7:00 pm. You would have thought that I hadn't eaten for days by the way that I was acting.

School is still going well. My, what a year makes with these kids. They came into first grade not knowing a whole lot. Now, they can read and work independently. On the topic of reading, I have one student who is reading at a 5th grade level. I have 3 students who didn't pass the kindergarten text. Oh, I have my work cut out for me. When giving a spelling test, one girl wrote 'blqudi' for the word 'pet'. Hum....

The little buggers are already getting to my immune system. I have been sneezing all day and now my nose is all stuffed up.

Well, it is time to do some lesson planning. It is also time for you, Amy, to set up a blog account.

*Note* Sorry if I offended any of you 'fabulous' word users. It is solely my opinion.
