Weekend in the Mts.

by Erica

This weekend, the core group from our church got away for a time of relaxation, prayer and planning. We stayed at a house in Vail Valley. We knew it would be nice because it accomodated all 11 of us-each couple with their own room. As we were driving up to the house, Jason and I were joking, "Wouldn't it be funny if that was the house we were staying at?" It was. The house was located on a golf course. Most of the men enjoyed a game of golf while the women got massages. Jason, Steve, Pauline and myself enjoyed an afternoon walking around Vail. Then, it was back to the house to catch up on some zzzzz's.

Somethings I Just Don't Understand

by Erica

I work in a high poverty school. 87 of our children are homeless. More than 65% are on free and reduced lunch. A majority of my students don’t come with the needed school supplies at the beginning of the year. I wouldn’t mind buying them the items that they are lacking if it weren’t for the number of students that own X-Boxes, Game Cubes and big screen TV’s. The kid's families can’t afford a $1.25 lunch, but they have an extra dollar to buy a treat from the snack bar. If you don’t have the money to pay for basic needs, why would you have the money for all these extras? I can't understand this mentality.

Supper Solutions

by Erica

There is a relatively new business trend in Colorado called Supper Solutions. It has been around this area for over a year or so now. This weekend I decided it give it a try with my friend, Dawn Hudson.

The store provides all the ingredients, directions, and utensils. They even chop up the food for you and clean up your mess! You simply pick which meal you would like to prepare, place all the ingredients in ziplock bags, pay for your food, and leave. Now, I have some frozen homemade entrees in the freezer ready to be cooked for the days that I simply do not have the time or energy to cook.

The idea is great. It saves time. It is simple to do. Just not sure if it is worth the cost.

Our Latest Adventure

by Jason

Every now and then, I get a whim to do something. Most of the time, it is a relatively meaningless task (see Audiophile). This time, however, I think it's different.

Steve and I have decided to start up a Christian apparel company. Who know what will come of it, but we are excited about it. This will be more than just a clothing company. We want the site to be a place where anyone can come to find resources (such as talking to others, books, etc). It might be a while before we know if anything is happening, but we are anxious to find out.

The site is up and running, but it is very preliminary. I'd love to hear your feedback, though! Feel free to check it out (and if you look, you can even find some of our designs). http://www.crossthreads.org/

Indian Food and 80's Music

by Erica

We are becoming regulars to the downtown Denver scene. On Saturday night, we headed down to Cherry Creek with Steve and Pauline. We went to an Indian restaurant called the Bombay Clay Oven. They served incredible Indian food. For those of you who would like a visual, we sat at the middle table outside.

After dinner we headed to Fado's to watch a friend play in his band. The band was great, but the people watching provided almost more entertainment for us.
